Meet the Writer

Hello Blogging World!

I thought the best way to start my blogging adventure was to introduce myself and my family, in a little more detail than my about me section! Which could be quite challenging, because when is it ever easy to talk about yourself?

My name is Emily, I am 30 years old. I have been married to my husband Joel for almost 5 years! I grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and am now living half way across Canada in Manitoba! You are also probably wondering what brought me to Manitoba- we will get to that! Currently I am working as an Assistant Manager at a bridal shop in Brandon, Manitoba. It’s a pretty amazing job helping brides find their dream dress for one of the most magical days in their life! Before working in the bridal industry I worked at a day care for 4 1/2 years with three year olds.

My husband Joel and I met in University. We were both attending Crandall University in Moncton, new Brunswick. I was in my 5th year, and he was in his 2nd year, (Yes, I robbed the cradle, but I look younger so it’s ok!) According to me we began dating in January of 2010, if you ask Joel it was December 2009. We were engaged on December 18th, 2011, and married September 2nd 2012. ¬†When we married Joel was going to school part time to finish his business degree. He made the decision to join the Canadian Military and after a long application process was sworn in October 1, 2014. Beginning his career in the Infantry was not easy, Joel was gone for about 8 months, with a Christmas break in between. While Joel was enduring some gruelling training, I was at home trying to keep my life together and not think about how much I missed him. I was so thankful for Family and friends, and our two fur babies who kept me company during this time. Joel returned home in June 2015 to see the first home that we built together, and loved, get packed up, and so began our trip half way across the country to Shilo Manitoba, our very first Military posting.

In our family we also have had two fur babies, Rosie (who is 4 1/2), and Reuben, who recently we had to put down, was only 3. Both dogs are boxers and have brought us more joy and comfort than we could ever imagine. While Joel was away I was so happy to have them around, they made me feel not so alone having them there by my side, and having them to take care of. Saying goodbye to Reuben was one of the hardest things Joel and I have had to face together as a married couple. He was a very special dog and was a big part of our life, which is why I feel the need to share about him. Through this hard time we are so thankful to have Rosie who has been such a great comfort and has kept us laughing! In the picture below Reuben is on the left, Rosie on the right- this was taken in the car on our move from Moncton to Shilo.10300293_10153179242327740_6216726322404898934_n

And finally to round out our growing family Joel and I are expecting not one, but TWO babies! TWINS!!! We couldn’t be more excited about this next step together, although it was quite a shock to the system at first (but that story will come later, I promise!) We can’t wait to be parents and we can’t wait for our parents to be grandparents! Babies are expected to arrive in October 2017, and the countdown is on! Here is a sneak peak at our little Twins!

I hope you feel like you got to know myself and my family a little more through this post. In future blog posts I will be highlighting bits of my pregnancy, living the life of a military wife, and eventually we will be getting to Joel and I becoming a family of 4 and all of the adventures that will bring! If you have any questions or want me to write on something in more detail that I have mentioned please let me know! I hope you continue to follow our story as we continue to share bits and pieces of our life!
